Texas and Pacific 2-10-4: In 1925, the Texas & Pacific received the first 2-10-4 steam locomotive built in North America. As was customary, the first railroad to receive a new wheel arrangement had the honor of naming it, and the T&P chose the name “Texas” for the 2-10-4. Our Brass-Hybrid Series Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 model represents the second group of 2-10-4 locomotives that Lima built for the T&P in 1927 – Class I-1a. The model depicts the “in-service” appearance of the locomotive circa 1948.
The T&P lineage of this model is evident and striking as the boiler and steam liners are painted using T&P’s unique ‘Russian Iron’. Other notable features of the model are the iconic Elesco “beetle browed” feed water heater, proper T&P “shields”, correct capped or flared stack, highly detailed rear head and cabin interior, including engine crew, correct booster engine on the trailing truck and correct Boxpok center wheel drive, working smoke density light and properly designed and executed “kennel” on the massive tender. In every way imaginable, our “Texas” class locomotive is a work of art and perfectly captures the image of this major technical and operational milestone and icon of the railroad.
The Freedom Train “edition” depicts T&P #610 in its 1976 Freedom Train livery while on the Bi-Centennial Tour through Louisiana and Texas. The Southern Railway “edition” depicts T&P #610 while leased to the Southern operating as power for their excursion trains in the late 1970s. In addition to the prototype models, we offer a limited number of painted models in the beautiful T&P Eagle paint scheme. This paint scheme has never been applied to 2-10-4s in real life.
All models are equipped with our Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC audio system with synchronized puff smoke and integrated GoPack capacitors.
