Surplus of looters, not “budget deficit” – ARAB TIMES

The INTEGRITY of His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled is undoubtedly intact. Everyone knows he doesn’t have butterflies in his stomach when he decides to take reform measures.

However, his reluctance to tackle things head-on is odd, as there are questions about what the future holds for Kuwait in terms of taking firm action, especially with regard to the money looted in the country. various sectors, and the situation the country has achieved accordingly. This may suggest that the hands of His Highness the Prime Minister are tied.

The possibility still exists to cut off the hands of looters even by circumventing the law to recover looted public wealth, or at least to recover what has been looted over the past three decades.

Crimes against public wealth are not prescribed. In this regard, we will not repeat the rhetoric of the measures taken by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other Gulf Arab states, even if there is a saying that “repetition is good. for smart people ”. Still, it seems every official has a night to sing, so they don’t learn from past experiences until it’s too late.

The institutions concerned with the control, the State Audit Office and the ministries have all the project files in reserve for decades. Therefore, a review and assessment of them by impartial world experts will reveal the billions that were plundered long ago.

Also, there should be a reassessment of the companies that got tenders through an official’s connections here and there, as Kuwaitis still remember to this day the five or six companies that had major projects. and “change orders” which sometimes cost more than the value of the project itself.

By the way, “change orders” do not exist anywhere except in Kuwait. They are an innovation. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Every newly invented practice (in religion) is heresy, and every heresy is misguidance.

This misguidance has resulted in the depletion of state finances, such as tenders for the supply of masks, drugs and other medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. This serves as a clear example in this regard. Before that, the cost of an oil refinery was increased to three times its cost, following procrastination in the processing of the award decision.

Added to this are the road and infrastructure projects in new residential areas, the falsification of armament and weapon maintenance budgets, and the scandals that have come to light and which have cost the state dozens. millions of dinars.

Your Highness the Prime Minister, Kuwait is neither short of funds nor of looters. Therefore, whenever the cave of Ali Baba and the Hundred Thieves is closed, the funds will overflow and the budget will not suffer from a deficit.

It all depends on a decision of Your Highness as head of executive power and state administration. Either you rise up to its height, or you witness its loss while waiting on the pavement of time.

We hope that the scene of Abu Abdullah Al-Saghir of Granada will not happen again after the fall of Granada in 1492, when his mother Princess Aisha Al-Horra rebuked him saying: “My son, you are doing well. to cry like a woman for what you couldn’t defend like a man.

We hope that His Highness the Prime Minister will crown his integrity and his clean slate with firm decisions that will save the country from its crises.
