German imports of candles and cones to hit record this year


IndexBox has just released a new report: “Germany – Candles and Cones – Market Analysis, Forecast, Size, Trends and Outlook”. Here is a summary of the main findings of the report.

Germany is rapidly increasing its imports of candles and candles. In the first seven months of 2021, Germany imported 84,000 tonnes of candles worth $ 230 million. These figures exceed last year’s 67,000 tonnes worth $ 163 million imported during the same period. Poland remains the largest trading partner, supplying 58% of the volume of candles and cones imported to Germany in 2020. In physical terms, German purchases in Poland increased by + 7.0% year-on-year last year.

In the first seven months of 2021, Germany bought 84,000 tonnes of candles from abroad, exceeding last year’s volume by 25% at the same time. In value, imports from Germany grew by + 41%, reaching $ 230 million.

From 2020, imports of candles and cones into Germany increased slightly to reach 171,000 tonnes in 2020, an increase of + 4.3% compared to the figure for the previous year. In value, they grew + 5.2% year-on-year to $ 429 million (IndexBox estimates) in 2020.

Poland (100,000 tonnes) was the largest supplier of candles and candles to Germany last year, with a 58% share of total imports. In addition, imports of candles and candles from Poland were four times higher than the figures recorded by the second largest supplier, the Netherlands (23,000 tonnes). China (16,000 tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a share of 9.4%.

In 2020, the average annual growth rate of volumes from Poland is + 7.0%. The other supplier countries recorded the following average annual growth rates of imports: the Netherlands (+ 3.0% per year) and China (+ 1.2% per year).

In terms of value, Poland ($ 199 million) was the largest supplier of candles and candles to Germany, accounting for 46% of total imports. The second place in the ranking was occupied by China ($ 47 million), with an 11% share of total imports, and was followed by the Netherlands, with a share of 11%.

The average import price of candles and cones was $ 2,504 per tonne in 2020, roughly equivalent to the previous year. Average prices varied somewhat between the main supplier countries. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were China ($ 2,875 per tonne) and Belgium ($ 2,450 per tonne), while prices from Poland ($ 1,990 per tonne) and the Low ($ 2,008 per tonne) were among the lowest. In 2020, the most notable price growth rate was achieved by Portugal, while the prices of other major suppliers saw more modest growth rates.
